Beef is actually the meat that comes from bovines, mostly from cattle. People from all over the world use this kind of meat in making all sorts of foods, like sausages for an example. But there are also certain cultures and religions that consider beef a taboo food.

But in the rest of the world, beef is one of the most consumed meats, because of its highly appreciated flavor.

In America, there are some primal cuts when it comes to chopping beef: chuck, rib, short loin, sirloin, top sirloin, bottom sirloin, tenderloin, round, brisket, shank, plate, flank. Chucks are usually used for hamburgers and roasts. Ribs and loins can be used for average steaks, while the plate’s short ribs can be used for pot roasting and certain skirt stakes for hanger stakes of fajitas. The round and the flank can successfully be used for moist cooking, even though the flank can also be grilled. The brisket is great for making barbecue beef briskets or corned beef.

These are the foods that are usually associated to certain beef cuts. But there are much more food recipes that involve beef, like beef and ale stew, beef and broccoli stir-fry, beef carpaccio with marinated bean salad, beef stroganoff, beef tagine, flash roast beef with garlic, rosemary and girolles and so much more. If you have the guts, you could also come up with new recipes, taking into consideration only your tastes.

And while beef gives us so many possibilities of cooking different meals, the cattle itself provides us with so many ingredients for making everyday foods like: sausages, candy, marshmallows, cookies, gelatin in deserts, head cheese, chewing gum, pate, yogurt, mayonnaise, clarification agent for wine, juice and beer, sausage casings and different variety meats such as tongue, heart, liver, kidneys.
